standards coordinator for Baptist Children's Hospital

Rah, rah, whoops: Years ago people would say I looked like I'd be a great cheerleader. I was encouraged to try out, but I was totally uncoordinated. Now I do belly dancing classes with my daughter and I love it, but I still lack coordination, which you need if you really want to get it right.

Cardio and a movie: I use a treadmill four nights a week in front of the TV. Netflix and the treadmill are a good combination. I go to Curves, too.

Hit the road: I have a special-needs daughter, Tracy, and I try to encourage her to exercise more. I brought up the idea of us participating in the Miami Corporate Run, so we're all doing it Thursday -- my daughter, my husband and I. Baptist is sponsoring us and I'm sponsoring Tracy's friends. That's seven of us. It's a nice event. You get two T-shirts and you look like a team.

Food, food everywhere: Tracy's living coach and I have been trying to lose weight for the past year. We keep encouraging one another to do active, healthy things. It's hard when many social activities are based around food.

Heavy stuff: My husband has always been an exercise fanatic. He wanted me to start lifting weights again, but there's the danger you'll drop them on yourself. About 10 years ago we saw the Bowflex commercials and bought the system. I did it for a while. My husband took over and used it until it fell apart. Now I'm going to order a DVD with exercises that ballet dancers do. It makes you lean and balanced. You stand at a bar and exercise using your own body weight. That's my next plan.

Bring on the veggies: I'm diabetic, so I take good care of myself. I eat whole grains, lots of vegetables and almost no meat. Years ago I was on a macrobiotic diet and that influenced my eating. It's kind of difficult to practice that diet perfectly, with the seaweed and correct portions. At work, a peppy pineapple is our symbol for health and fitness. We can buy healthy lunches every day. Sometimes I pick them up for dinner when I work late.

Guilty pleasure: Chocolate.
