At 92, he's the picture of healthy living

WWII vet: In World War II I was a photographer with the Army Air Corp. I didn't fly but I did develop pictures. When I came home and was living in New York I got a terrific shot of Times Square on V-E Day from The New York Times building. The windows on Broadway were open, people were throwing out paper and goods. I climbed out of a dentist's office window and walked around a catwalk to get the picture. That was one of the greatest shots I have taken.

Out of the dark: I teach digital photography to seniors at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (www.miami.eduolli). I love getting them to do their own prints. We don't need a darkroom any more.

Bygone days: I studied at the Art Students League in Manhattan during the Depression years. I didn't have a camera. I was thinking about commercial art, rather than photography.

Life work: I worked at Pix and I was the new kid on the block developing Alfred Eisenstat's pictures for Life magazine. I used the speed graphic 4x5 camera. Eisenstat used the 35 mm.

Exercise: I go to Silver Sneakers twice a week. I have an exercise bike at home and I keep active, not sitting and watching TV. I'm aging gracefully.

My diet: Ha! Well, I'd say it's normal. I stay low on the cholesterol and I try to keep away from salt. I had open heart surgery a few years back but that doesn't hold me back. I attached my camera to a walker so I don't have to carry it around my neck.

Guilty pleasure: At my age I don't have any anymore. I have a companion and she is more or less my age. We've been to Italy, Vegas . . . We like to travel and we do things in moderation. That's MODERATION, in capital letters.
