Dining Q&A | Florida-style seafood in Broward

Q: I'm looking for a local, old Florida-style seafood restaurant in Broward to take some friends visiting from Cleveland. Nothing fancy. Can you help?

A: Southport Raw Bar, a local favorite for more than 35 years, is known for its thick, homey New England clam chowder soup, raw bar and peel-and-eat Old Bay shrimp. It's so laid-back, you can stop by right from the beach and chow down (1536 Cordova Rd., Fort Lauderdale; 954-525- 2526). Or, for a more islandy theme, Calypso (460 S. Cypress Rd., Pompano Beach, 954-942- 1633) has been a hit since it opened in 1990 for fresh fish, seafood and Caribbean fare. Join mallet-wielding, bib-wearing regulars at Rustic Inn, open more than 50 years -- you can't beat the golden garlic and Dungeness crabs (4331 Anglers Ave., Fort Lauderdale; 954-584-1637).
