The third time's the charm, the saying goes. But the folks behind Riley McDermott's have left little to luck at their swank Las Olas steak and seafood restaurant. Following Red Coral and then Zucca in the Bank of America Building, McDermott's has been the hottest reservation in Fort Lauderdale since opening in January.

''The whole place could have been plucked from a hip Museum of Modern Art soiree during the 1960s,'' gushed a press release extolling the virtues of Christine's, a new Fort Lauderdale restaurant. It sounded like a lot of hype.
Q: I live in Sunrise but I often meet a friend in west Boca Raton and would like to know of some nice restaurants about halfway where we could have dinner.

In just two years, Timothy Boyd built a loyal following at his tiny Upper Crust Café in Plantation before selling the place in 2006. For fans who have missed the chef's eclectic cuisine and personal touch, there's good news: Boyd and his wife, Lara, have a new restaurant, Milk & Honey, in Pembroke Pines.
Q: I love to have breakfast overlooking the ocean. Any suggestions on oceanfront restaurants in the Fort Lauderdale or Hollywood area?

If you think hotel restaurants are boring, let me introduce Aizia. This newest stunner at the lavish Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood is hidden in a corner of the mammoth hotel lobby.

The Jib Room brings new meaning to the concept of ''bar food.'' The Fort Lauderdale hideaway is reeling in regulars with dishes like escargot with Bordelaise sauce, filet mignon and island seafood stew. But then, the Jib Room has multiple personalities.

Every neighborhood needs restaurants that locals can call their own -- the kind of spots where the servers recognize you, there's no hour-long wait for a table on a Saturday night and they don't complain if your child spills a drink on the floor.
